Dang Show is an Iranian band founded by brothers Taha Parsa and Shaya Shoja in the 2000s. Their music combines Persian poetry and singing with piano, saxophone and percussion. From early performances in Tehran and their first album in 2010, they went on to work with a succession of singers and instrumentalists, adding more electronic arrangements during the following decade.521678

Life & work
Beginnings
The brothers took the band's name from a poem by Rumi, whose verse became a recurring part of their songs. They drew on classical Persian literature and Western music. Shaya later said that they had learned Persian singing through repeated listening to Mohammad-Reza Shajarian and other singers, rather than academic study.5
They developed their music through improvisation. In 2010, the members described starting a piece without fixing its whole shape in advance and allowing it to develop as they played. Parsa compared their historically rooted songs to the films of Ali Hatami, and their songs with modern words and arrangements to the films of Dariush Mehrjui.9
The band performed in Tehran at the opening of the Fajr International Film Festival, at Khane Cinema and at a three-day charity concert for Mahak, which supports children with cancer.6 Bamahang released their first album, Shiraz 40 Year Old, in 2010. Parsa, Omid Nemati and Sepanta Mojtahedzadeh sang on it, with backing vocals by Ghazal Shakeri, while Aydin Aghdashloo and Roya Nonahali recited poetry. Bringing well-known collaborators into their early work helped introduce the band to listeners.7109
Albums and changing voices
Parsa described his work with the band’s successive singers as directing a performance to bring the whole piece together. Women took part in this work too: after Shakeri’s backing vocals on the debut, the brothers worked with Toronto-based singer Mahnaz Rad.51011
Ali Zand Vakili sang on Deltang Show and, with Saeed Atani, on Dang Show Room. The latter brought together poems by Rumi, Saadi, Aref Qazvini, Fereydoon Moshiri and Simin Behbahani.12 By 2017, the band had turned further towards electronic music and new arrangements for Mad O Nay, with Milad Bagheri singing.812
Their first album reached the authorized domestic market in December 2018 under the shorter title Shiraz. The band described having spent years waiting for permission to release it in Iran.13 At the fifth Musicema celebration, reported in January 2019, Mad O Nay shared the public-choice award for a fusion and experimental album with Daal's White Crow.14
Later collaborations
In the 2019 song “Band O Bala”, the brothers returned to Rumi's poetry with kamancheh player Sina Ettehad. Shaya composed and arranged the music, and both brothers sang.15 Their later work brought in Shahriar Siavash, who sang and played setar and tombak on “The Best”, released in 2024. Shaya and Ashkan Naraghi produced the recording.1617 The song became part of Behtar az Dark va Sokoon, released in 2025. Other collaborators on that album included violinist Saman Samimi and percussionist Saba Samimi.1819

تاثیر ادبیات کلاسیک ایرانی از یک سو و علاقه به برخی از آثار شاخص موسیقی غربی موجب شد که نوعی در هم آمیختگی از این عناصر در آثار موسیقی ما نمایان و تبدیل به شیوه اجرایی ما شود.
· رضا شایا: به صورت آکادمیک آموزش ندیدهایم، اما به طور مرتب گوش کردن به آوازهای ایرانی از جمله آثار استاد شجریان و دیگر استادان موسیقی ایرانی باعث شده است که موسیقی ایرانی در ما رسوب کند.
ما در «دنگ شو» خوانندگان را کارگردانی میکنیم تا محصول نهایی به طور کامل ارایه شود.
در حال حاضر نیز با یک خواننده جوان ساکن تورنتو به نام مهناز راد در حال همکاری هستیم که در کنسرت ونکوور نیز حضور خواهد داشت.
