Life & work
Early work
He grew up in Rasht, the son of a religious eulogy singer, reciting the Qur’an and hearing Shi‘i devotional music. Rock and heavy metal reached him through Guitar Hero; he began playing guitar at twelve, inspired by Guitar Hero III and Slash.54 His band work included singing and lead guitar in Makhoola, a connection reported by the newspaper 7Sobh.3 On the 2014 single “Nadari”, he composed the music and Saeid Moussavi sang.89
Food Court and collaborations
His solo debut Food Court, released across 2019–2020, brought together his composition, playing and singing.4 The dishes supplied more than titles: writing about the record, researcher Alireza Doostdar described its use of northern Gilaki food to tell stories of love, loss, desire and violence.5 On “Khorous Fesenjan”, Moody and Arash Monsef wrote in bahr-e tavil, a poetic form used for both humour and mourning. Moody told Doostdar that its structure closely followed a song he had found in his father’s eulogy collection, redirecting its musical and emotional force toward humour.5
On “Mirza Ghasemi”, he worked with bassist Maziyar Khavajiyan and drummer Borna Shafizadeh.10 In 2020 he sang with Golsa on “The Poet”, their reworking of the Martik and Googoosh song with words by Zoya Zakarian.1112
Later albums
In 2022 he and Mehrad Hidden released Zoozanaghe.7 That July, “Nish” introduced his forthcoming solo album Oryan, which followed in April 2023. Its words were drawn from Baba Taher Oryan’s poetry; Moody supplied vocals, guitars and songwriting, Sina Saeidi produced, and Shafizadeh played drums.1314156 The title track featured Aida Shahghasemi and bass by Khavajiyan.16
He returned to Baba Taher’s poetry on “Khoongar” in 2024.1718 He continued working with Saeidi on the 2026 album Songs for the Sunken. He played guitar and wrote the music; Saeidi produced the album.1920

In each of the tracks in Food Court, he focuses on a dish from northern Gilaki cuisine and weaves its aromas and flavors into a story of love, loss, lust, and violence.
The son of an Islamic eulogy singer, Moody grew up in Rasht reciting the Qur’an and absorbing the sounds of Shi‘i devotional music. As a teenager, he became familiar with rock and heavy metal through the video game Guitar Hero.
The lyrics (written by Arash Monsef and Moody) are composed in the bahr-e tavil meter of Persian poetry, a form deployed in both humorous as well as mournful compositions.
Moody told me that the poetic structure of Khorus Fesenjan mirrored almost exactly a song whose lyrics he had found in one of his father’s eulogy collections. His intention was not to mock the tragedy of Karbala, but instead to redirect its musical, poetic, and affective forces for playful, humorous effect.
